One common theme you will see throughout this website is something like "this is simple, but it is NOT easy". Those of you who haven't ever had a reason to separate these two terms, simple and easy, will probably find yourselves annoyed with me for that.
The fact is, there is a mountain of difference between these two words. Some people fail at anything that is hard work. Not from lack of smarts or lack of talent or lack of interest. Just from an unwillingness to accept the fact that there is no free lunch. I'm talking about lazy people. We've all met some of them. Some of them hide it cleverly with mysticism or claims of "bad luck". "My ship just hasn't come in yet." or "I just never seem to catch a break." Well, it's all just laziness in my book. I find lazy people only slightly more palatable than mean people. I'm hoping I scared them all away with the threat of hard work right there at the beginning of my home page.
Make no mistake about it, building a home-based business, even with the best tools on the planet, is hard work and it takes time; lots of time.
Simple is something altogether different. Simple doesn't mean "not hard", it means "not complicated". Something that is simple can be done by pretty much anybody -- if they put enough time and effort into it. Something can be simple because it is just obvious: getting dressed, making breakfast, feeding the dog. These are simple things.
What about building a house? Most people would start out saying "That's hard!" Well, yes it is, lots of back breaking work goes into building a house. After reading the above, most people would also say "That's also very complicated!" That would be correct also. There are literally millions of details that have to be just right to make the house stand there and survive the weather and the building inspector. Building a house is tremendously complicated...and hard!
Now suppose you had the architect and a building inspector and an expert home builder telling you what to do and how to do it every step of the way. I don't mean "OK, frame out that wall and then run the electric and plumbing in it." I mean "OK, come over here with me -- good, now pick up this piece of wood - no, not that one, this one -- good, now bring it over here...". Building a house this way would still be really hard work...but it would be simple. Not only that, but the house would pass all of it's inspections on the first try, and it would be a good solid comfortable house. You would be exhausted, but you could do it - even with no prior experience.
Building a small business is not quite as complicated (or as hard) as building a house. It is complicated and hard though. Enough so that no lazy people succeed at it ever, and very few non-lazy people do either. I've heard various statistics over the years, but they average out to approximately 8 out of 10 people who try to start a small business fail. It may be even worse for Internet related home-based businesses. Not because of the work involved, but because of the complexity. And with this type of business, it seems that the more you think about it, the more complex it gets. It is very easy to "over think" every aspect of it, and never get anywhere.
If you really really "GET" what I'm saying here about simple vs. easy, let me just cap it off by saying that the ONLY reason I'm here to show you this business building machine is that it takes almost all of the complexity out of the process. There is still plenty of room left for creativity and hard work, but the tools and the information provided show you all of the right steps and none of the wrong steps. Steps that are almost as simple as my "building a house steps" above. And if you get stuck with any of the steps, you have three kinds of support behind you:
- Me (Blush - the expert house builder and/or inspector in our example above)
- An active forum full of people just like you doing the same thing (dozens of builders and electricians etc.)
- The Architect (the guy who designed and built the machine and his very helpful staff)
With adequate persistence you will get through it and you will be successful. We just won't let you put the roof on upside-down or hook the toilet up to the electricity instead of the water.
With our method, it is not easy...but it is simple.
You CAN do this!
