Once you have mastered that aspect of an online home based business you are about half way there (but that's a lot closer than the vast majority of the sites out there ever get). The other half of the story involves knowing quite a bit about how the search engines like Google and MSN Search work, and how they rate sites and rank them in the search results that they return. You need to know the insider secrets of this highly technical specialty, and you have to be on top of the trends and stay ahead of all the other guys out there trying to do the same thing.

Or do you? To be sure, without succeeding in this area, your website will not be found. It will be lost amongst all of it's rivals, and will not pull in traffic, and will not make you any money. Before you get too depressed about that, you need to understand that many of the other tools in the toolset you're about to see are dedicated to just this aspect of building and maintaining your home based money machine. That same kind of "feet up on the desk and beer in hand" power gets applied to this even more daunting but important part of building an online business.

The other half (ok, there are one too many "half's" here, but thirds just don't sound as dramatic) of the online business success story has everything to do with getting paid. After all, what good is it going to do you to put together a high traffic website devoted to your specialty if you don't have anything to sell? This "half" is often referred to in the lingo of the biz as "monetization". A fancy word for "show me the money".

Well, this is where you get to make a choice. Maybe you do have something to sell, and you can certainly use our method to make that into a successful business. Most people don't have anything to sell in their area of specialty though. Perhaps you've been working as a professional in some industry where it would cost many thousands of dollars to develop a prototype and create your own product. Fear not, there are other ways of making money with website traffic.

One of those ways is through something called "affiliate marketing" In short, this method involves partnering with another company that DOES have a product to sell, and they have all of the order taking and warehousing and shipping and accounts recievable stuff well in hand. What they need, is lots of help finding people interested in buying their stuff, and that's where you come in.

This method of doing business has become so popular in the past few years that there are even middle-men, or affiliate brokers who work with hundreds of product companies and thousands of people like you, and provide a very easy interface to this whole idea of getting paid to help somebody else sell their products. There are litterally thousands and thousands of diverse products in all manner of different industries that your site could introduce people to. Just sign up with one of these affiliate brokers and copy and paste some stuff they give you into your site. There you go, monetization done.

But let's say your specialty is so unusual that there don't happen to be any affiliate companies for you to work with. Don't loose heart, because that brings us to what I like to call "the lazy man's route to successful monetization".
